On The First Day

The weather is ugly in Chicago. It is grey and rainy. A good day to stay inside and quilt. I am cutting 2 1/2 squares from all my scraps and hand dyed fabrics. I am going to make a charm quilt. Not sure why its called a charm quilt. Cutting hundreds of 2 1/2 squares is not charming.

It's called a charm quilt because the Victorian ladies referred to the little pieces they cut from each other's fabrics as charms.

They would go to each other's house for tea and offer a selection of their fabrics for each friend to cut a template's worth. In that way, the quilt did not have duplicates.
