Fabric Postcards

These are the first postcard I have made. They will be given as gifts so the backs are not a light color and do not follow the USPS mail rules.

I have fun making these and have 10 more with very different designs that I am hand quilting.

I have a question about beads with small holes. What do you use to sew them with? What kind of needle and number of strands of floss or thread?

Have A Great Evening!

I recently got a great book about beading on fabric (I can't think of the title, the author is Larkin Van Horn), and there are a number of beading threads she recommends -- I think they are mostly nylon. I think the point is that over time the beads have the possibility of cutting through weaker threads (like cotton...). I found some thread at Hobby Lobby in the beading section -- just white and black, though -- I need to look around online for other colors...

Hi Debbi

As a New Zealand can you tell me what the UPS mail rules are? I have made a few postcards but have only posted a couple. They seem to get through okay in NZ but I didn't have embellishments like yours on them. I'm pretty sure the red would get through here as long as the address could be easily read.

I also like the fabrics you have dyed.

when I have really small holed beads I sometimes string them using a piece of floral or jewelry wire....

Your cards are great!

If you are sewing beads onto fabric, a straw needle is ideal. -'but terribly hard to thread!' Nylon thread is supposed to be pretty long lasting. I dont know for purposes other than sewing.
I tend to use waxed dental floss for things like doll bodies & teddy bears. It is very strong, & is easier to thread because of the waxing.
Wow! you have gone bright yellow!!

Debbi - your PC's are great - they will go thru the mail w the Red Back - just use a white pen or silver pen for the address and message - the USPS requirements are no more than 4x6" and no more than 1/8th" thick - the post office has a template they use - I try to compare mine to the thickness of one of my acrylic rulers that I use w my rotary cutter... to make sure they are not too thick

I love doing postcards, but, I won't be doing any for a while. Just finished 60 for Christmas presents that Scarlett gave to her employees...
