WIP Wednesday 12-20-2006

Everything is a WIP for me this week. I am only working on UFOs that need to be pieced until after the holidays. I have posted photos before.

This is Billy's Christmas tree on top of his dresser. This is Jacob's Christmas tree on top of his desk.

This is Billy and Jacob's Christmas tree in the den. When Jacob gets home from San Diego he will add his trains layout. The train tree skirt I made for Jacob when he was just a toddler.

This is the finished tree in the living room. It is the only real tree in the house. It is very hard to see the tinsel. My husband puts the tinsel on one by one. He is an design engineer and it has to be perfect. The tree is so big I can not get a photo from the top to the bottom. I will take another photo after I move furniture so you can see the tree skirts another day. The train layout needs to be added.

I am going downtown with my son today so I will not get much sewing or blogging done.

Christmas Tree Decorations

This is my husband putting colored lights on the tree. He starts with Angel and then white lights in the middle of the tree by the trunk. The rest of the tree gets colored lights.This was the tree when I woke up this morning all the lights are on. This ornament is a Graf Zeppelin and is about 70 years old and is handed down from my husbands grandparents.

This Santa is losing his paint and is about 100 years old also from my husbands grandparents. We also have another one with most of his paint.
This Santa is about 70 years old and once again from my husbands grandparents.
We have more ornaments that are from my husbands grandparents. When we first got engaged my mom got us our first ornament and over the years my mom have given us many more. Both my sons from their first Christmas have been given ornaments from Hallmark. Their ornaments are sports, car, and train themes. Both sons have a desk size tree in their bed rooms with mini Hallmark ornaments. All our dogs have an ornament with their name on it. Monday I will make one for Max.

I will take more photos of the tree and post them another day.

A Busy Day and Night

What a day we have had. We were up and dressed at 5:00 am. This is sun rising as we were driving.



We had to be at a small airport in northern Illinois by 7:30 because our son was leaving for San Diego with his NJROTC unit. The unit was to be ready to leave between 9:30 and 11:30. The plane did not have an arrival time because they fly military transport and when it gets there it is there. The plane arrived at 10:30. The cadets loaded the plane, boarded the plane and by 11:10 they took off. Some of the parents stayed to see the unit off. I missed my son loading his sea bag on the plane and I thought I was not going to be able to say bye. I turned to walk away and someone said to turn around because my son was heading back to the hanger. We walked to each other and he hugged and kissed me goodbye. What a great feeling. When he turned and walked away I started to cry. Seeing your son get on a plane that says United States Navy is very heart breaking and makes you proud at the same time. I know this is not the last time I will see him get on a plane with those words. Yes he is just in Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps but he wants to make the Navy his career as an Officer. This photos shows the unit in formation getting instructions for loading the plane.



After an hour drive home my husband and I did some holiday shopping. When we got home it was time to light the second candle for Hanukkah. This is dinning room table with some of my menorah and other Hanukkah decorations. The menorah I am using was my grandparents and must be over 70 years old.

A while later my husband started to decorate the real Christmas tree in the living room. I will post phots of the tree another day.


This is the menorah in the front bay window. The window muntons get in the way but you still can see the menorah and lights.




This the front of our house. Because my husband got sick this is all the decorating he was able do. Santa, reindeers, slay and wreath did not get put out. I will show close up photos another time. The little white patch on the right is all the snow we have left. I sure hope it will be a white christmas here in Chicagoland.

I just got a call from my son they landed, he is the barracks, showered, in a clean uniform and ready for chow. Now I can go to sleep knowing he is safe.

Happy Hanukkah

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight my family will light the first of eight candles and then have a tradition dinner. Because our sons are 20 and 15 gift giving is no big deal so we will have a very quiet evening after dinner. I am just happy we will be able to sit down and have dinner together.

I have the sewing/dinning room cleaned and started decorating the house. Last Night my husband and son brought the real tree in the house. I will post photos again when the tree is decorated and when I have finished the rest of the house.
