Blue Jean Blocks and More Hand Dyed Fabric

I have run out of room in my studio (dinning room) to store fabric. I will be taking all of the commercial fabrics and put them in bins in the sun room. I have a box of fabric that I am going to send to Debra that I am donating for service quilts. I still have 4 bins to look at before I mail the box. I found a big bag with blue jeans and scraps from my sons quilts and I have a few boxes left that I got from Lois. I spent yesterday cutting and sewing these blocks. Now the bag is smaller and will fit in a bin also going to the sun room. I have two big piles of jeans on my work table that have been cut and are just waiting to be sewn. I also washed more muslin for string blocks. Soon the weather here in Chicagoland will be cold and I will be sewing. I find sewing jean and string blocks relax my mind and body.

More photos of the fabric I worked on last weekend. Some will get more embellished when I add them to quilts.

I hope you are having great weekend and found time to be creative.

Is a service quilt the same thing as a utility quilt? I have this sort-of-oddly made quilt that was listed (E-bay, how I love thee) as an 'utility' quilt, although I'm not sure if 'utility' is the name for the way it's made, or the materials used...

and one thing that I wonder - Is it Debbie-quilts, doo-bye quilts, or dubbie quilts?

(Can you tell I'm a little bored tonight?)

The fabric is amazing! Youi (almost) make me want to learn to sew!

denim quilts are always so warm and welcoming and hardy -- my biggest problem with them is the cutting the pieces which seems like such work given the weight of the fabric!

All of your fabrics are beautiful. I look forward to seeing them in a project soon - or are they still too precious to use?

I think your jean blocks are great! Don't you just hate cutting all those jeans? I think that was the worst part when I made mine.

I made a humungous king size with muslin backing and quilt batting. I even handquilted it, which took a long time and didn't turn out well. Now that it's done, I think it's way too heavy to use on the bed. It just sits in the basement. What a shame! Maybe I will give it one more try this winter.

I've never heard of using jeans in a quilt. Is the whole quilt made out of jeans or just a few pieces?

Oooh -- love the piece of fabric with all of the squares and the jeans quilts. I have a huge tub of old and worn jeans in the basement just waiting for me to play with them. Hmmm...
