Hand Dye Stash

I have trouble cutting up my hand dyed fabrics so today I took the plunge. I am cutting at least 10 inches of each piece of fabric I have dyed this summer. I will be adding texture to the surface by stamping, foiling, rubbing, printing and painting. I will post photos in the coming days.

Yesterday I did not touch the computer and I have alot to catch up with. I have not sent an email back to anyone who has left a comment on my blog the past few day so a am sending a Thank-you here. Now off to read your blogs.

Life

A few weeks ago I joined the Woman Challenge (Women and girls Out Moving Across the Nation). The route I chose is the Gulf and Caribbean because I love the heat and the ocean. I most likely will never be able to travel from San Antonio TX, to Spanish Town VI. so this is to be the only way I will be able to it. Any of the other routes would of been great too.
The challenge starts on Mothers Day and I am ready.

The beginning of the year I realized my health was declining, my weight gain had double over the past year, my financial outlook was not any better and I just hated each day.

I decide to tackle my health first because I have MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome). It is a type of cancer that affect blood, bone marrow and lymph nodes. Mine is in the blood the type of MDS I have is Refactory Anemia with Blasts. So far no medication has helped to raise my blood counts. I was taking 1 shot a day that costs about $1,800 for each shot. Insurance pays alittle. I have had 3 bone marrow biopsy and no change has been found (good and bad news) The real bad news is survival average is 4 - 5 years. I am going on 3 years. When you look at me I look as healthy as an Ox. I have low red cells, white cells, and platelets. Because of this my immune system sucks, I have shortness of breath, pale skin, severe fatigue, bruise and bleed even with minor bumps and scrapes. Mostly because of the severe fatigue and lowered innune systems I have not been able to work outside of the house. I still work on people's computers and have my crafting and quilting. I would love to go back to work full time but I am so afraid to getting sick from others. I do not go out in public much and when I do I am always at risk for getting sick. Sometime I wear a mask and gloves which helps.

I have stopped drinking diet drinks accept for 1 at dinner. I do drink 3 - 5 bottles of water a day, eat better, and walk each day. My goal is to walk 10,000 steps a day. I average 5000 steps. This past week I have done at least 10,000 steps which is about 5 miles each day. I have lost 26 pounds in 4 1/2 months and yesterday I tried on clothes I have not worn in years and they fit.

The next few weeks will be very hard for me because of mother's day my mom's birthday and on July 11th it will be 1 year since my mom passed away. I know it will get easier as the years go by but for now I am very depressed.

Last year my husband lost his job and was able to find another one within 3 months. Without an income and insurance we used all of our savings which was not much to start. Hubby had to take a very large cut in pay and it has not help. We are getting behind each month and with me not being able to work it is just not good and we are going down fast.

Over then next few weeks I will be selling all of my commercial fabric stash. When I was doing craft shows, selling table runners, place mats and napkins I had a retail licence and was able to buy fabric by the bolt at wholesale prices. I have so many great fabrics that I can not possible use in my lifetime it is time to share with others. I do have my hand dye fabrics on my DubiQuilts website. If you are looking for a theme or color let me know and I will check my fabric stash. I will be starting a new blog for my commercial fabric stash soon.

The next two days I will be working at the boys state gymnastic meet. My sons team did not qualify this years, but a few gymnasts are going as individuals. My quilting will be on hold and I look forward to getting back to working on Maritime on Monday. I have been planning my hand and machine quilting and gathering the embellishments I plan on using.

Sorry I was so long winded it is just a bad day. Everything can change in a second and I do know how lucky I am to have what I have, my family and all my great cyber friends.

IQF - New Goodies and Toys

My goodies from Friday.

I talked with Alex Anderson a bit about "The Quilt Show" and how much I enjoyed the first two shows. Alex and Ricky are a great team and the show is very good.
I was a big fan of Simply Quilts and very sad when it went off the air. I do have all the show on VCR tape and DVD so I will not be lost when I need to know how to do something.
I love markers and will have fun using them.
I love Tulips and this is going to be fun to make.
I have my own design for tulips that I made from photos of my own flowers years ago. It was before the digital camera and before I thought to take photos of the quilts I sold at craft shows.I am collecting blue, green and yellow fabrics for a quilt for our bedroom.
I have EQ5 and just love it.
I was not going to get the new version because I am very happy with EQ5. After see the demo of EQ6 and all the new changes I was hooked.

I never have enough threads. The 4 spools on the right are red, white and blue.

Beads, Beads and more Beads.

Back in March I asked Suzanne from Art, Quilts, and Other Adventures blog for help with beading on my quilts. Suzanne gave me great information on what kind of beads, threads, needles and what books to get. As you can see I took her advice. Suzanne thank-you for your help!

Beading Thread and Beading Needle holders.

I still have more to show you in the next few days. Can you tell how much I love going to the IQF? I love the Quilts and spend most of my time looking at the quilts but I do shop on Friday. I save money all year just for the show.

Susan R****y C******d - You are welcome! I am glad you enjoyed the photos. If you have a blog please email me so I can stop by.

Atet from Quilting In Cornfields - You are welcome! I will be stopping by you blog later tonight and will add you to my blogroll and bloglines.

Waiting for the Snow

The sky have been very dark today in Chicago and the weather people are telling us the snow is on its way. I am ready and waiting. I hate the dark grey days and love when it snows. I am lucky and do not work outside the house so I don't have to worry about rush hour traffic. My husband now works close to the house which is great.

I did manage to cut some fabric today while sitting in bed. The dogs were with me and gave me just enough room.

Thank-you for your comments the past few days. I am reading your blogs and when I feel better I will get back to leaving comments. I know I just have a cold and sound like a baby, but I also have cancer of the blood (MDS) and it just harder to get over a cold.

Have A Great Day!

Monday - Bloglines Feed Errors

Bloglines is full of Feed Errors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am spending way to much time checking each feed to see if it has an error. The errors started on Thursday, November 16th. What is happening is your Blog is not showing any new updates. Even my Blog have a feed error. I was not getting any updates on Bloglines. The error says to do nothing and Bloglines will correct the error. BUT, if the error continues then the URL needs to be checked. When I double click on the blog name a new window opens and sure enough the Blog has new postings.

IS ANY ONE ELSE having this problem? PLEASE let me know?

I am spending the day cutting my fabric stash into FQs and 1 yard pieces. I am going to make a scrap quilt with all the odd sizes I have left.

Have A Great Day!
