February Journal Quilt - Finished

This is my finished 12 X 12 X 12 Quilt Studio February Journal Quilt. The theme for my Journal Quilts is Family Tree. Click here to see January's Journal Quilt. This month is the B****e Family Branch One. The Photos are DH Great Grandparents, Grandparents, Aunt and Dad. The older photos are from the early 1900s and are tin plates. The other photos are black and white. I scanned all the photos and tin plates with my Epson CX4800 ink jet 3 in one scanner, printer and copier. I was surprise how well they all scanned. I am having a problem with the black cartridge so I used my HP7350 to print the photos. I wanted to do crazy quilt blocks and use the stitches on my New Home, Memory Craft 8000 sewing machine.

The pictuers printed really well. Did you treat them to make them washable? I read somewhere that bubble jet ink has to be treated to make it colorfast. Apparently you can iron any fabric onto freezer paper and print on it if you use the stuff to set the color. I haven't gotten any yet so I don't know if it works.

Awesome journal quilt. I did a photo quilt years ago using transfer paper and had to get my photos copied at a copy shop onto that paper, etc. It was labor intensive, expensive, and I wasn't all that happy with the results, either. This is awesome. I have had etter results since with methods similar to yours. Well done, Debbi!

This is amazing; I am truly impressed!

The difference between vision and reality is often so wide with photo quilts. Looks like you've really mastered the technique here!

That's really fantastic. The style is so appropriate for the old pictures.

What an awesome idea! I love it!
Are you going to do other little quilts for other 'branches' of the family tree?

I love your journal quilt. The design goes perfectly with the photos. I've been thinking about making two wall hangings for my living room and your journal quilt is an inspiration for me.
